ActionAid Palestine Celebrates International Youth Day
ActionAid Palestine to Reaffirm Commitments towards Palestinian youth
ActionAid Palestine(AAP) celebrated international youth day by organizing different activities with partners and stakeholders to reaffirm its commitment towards empowering Palestinian youth. This day is celebrated every year, on 12 August. This year’s theme is , ‘“Transforming education” which is very connected with AAP’s youth interventions ensuring inclusive and equitable quality of formal and informal education that promotes equal lifelong learning opportunities for all and make education more relevant to the needs of labor market.
Debate activities and workshops to engage youth in discussing issues of education and employment. The outcome of this engagement will be producing a position paper about this theme to be discussed with relevant policy makers.
Since its beginning, AAP works with Youth-led organizations to transform education by partnering with governmental and educational institutions and other stakeholders, lobbying and advocating education policies and developing complementary training programs to enhance socio-economic conditions for today’s youth as means of addressing the challenges of unemployment and underemployment. AAP contributes to the Implementation of the 2030 agenda of sustainable development goals by ensuring the access of Palestinian youth to vocational and technical skills development, decent work opportunities, entrepreneurship and eliminating gender disparity and increases the economic resilience of the Palestinian communities in Occupied Palestinian Territories. This is aiming to reduce the gap in the mismatch between the skills youth graduates can offer and the skills which are in demand and this is known as structural unemployment.
ActionAid promotes youth economic empowerment by supporting and funding youth internships, apprenticeship and entrepreneurship activities, in addition to establishing small-scale businesses to decrease unemployment rate among young men and women.
The country director of AAP in oPt, Ibrahim Ibraigth said: “ our programmes support the life and professional skills of Palestinian youth in partnership with a number of community, educational, professional and relevant organizations. We also promote their civic and democratic participation of youth through a number of projects and activities that foster the engagement of youth in civil organization serving their community”.
In 2018, ActionAid reached some 2500 young persons across West Bank and Gaza Strip. It is worth noting that 60% of young people trained are young women between 18-29 years old.
