ActionAid Palestine to Organize Raising Awareness Workshops to Marginalized Women of the South of WB with 16 Days Campaign to end GBV

Introducing Marginalized Women to 16 Days Campaign to End GBV

Hebron-Palestine The project of ActionAid Palestine Valiance “Basala”: Empowering women in Old Hebron City” funded by Australian Government organized raising awareness workshops targeting more than 150 women in the south of West Bank and old city of Hebron H2. It was conducted in partnership with midwifery faculty of Bethlehem university and Palestinian Family Planning and Protection Association(PFPPA).

Midwifery students presented educational, cultural, health and entertainment presentations about GBV and ways for seeking assistance and services when they are exposed to violence . Women were also introduced to 16 days  joint campaign “ together against violence’ and its importance and activities in ending GBV.This campaign will be launched on 25 Nov 2019 in Palestine, calling for prompt adoption of the Family Protection Bill and better access to services of GBV survivors. The campaign gathered a record-high of 67 national and international partners, which will roll out more than 100 coordinated activities throughout the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, and the Gaza Strip.

The head of programs in PFPPA, Wesal Karajeh  talked during this activity : “ we are always proud of our partnership with international organizations and this kind of activities has a greater of positive impact on the reality of local community and our role is an integral role”. Mrs. Nabeela Al’ Ajlouni who live in H2 which is usually exposed to settlers’ violence said: “ this workshop is very useful giving the women the opportunity to express themselves and raising their awareness about GBV  so that they could empowered as well as trained  on how to seek assistance from  protection centers.”

An average of 29 per cent of currently married or ever married women in Palestine experienced at least one form of violence (such as psychological, physical, sexual, social or economic violence) by their husbands in Palestine (38 per cent in the Gaza Strip and 24 per cent in the West Bank).

The 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence is a global campaign that takes place each year. It commences on 25 November, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women , to 10 December, Human Rights Day. It is used as an organizing strategy by individuals and organizations around the world to call for the prevention and elimination of gender-based violence.
