Enhancing Youth’s Advocacy and Networking skills

Tanzania- Arusha -Isra’a Jum’ah( 29 years old) is a Palestinian refugee young woman from Ein El Hilweh camp south of Saida in south Lebanon and was one of 23 participants in the second international Youth Gathering(IYG) in solidarity with Palestine organized by ActionAid Palestine in Tanzania .

Isra’a represents, suffering ,aspiration and activism of the Palestinian refugee Youth in Lebanon. Isra’a has high job qualifications and skills in project management and youth issues but those qualifications and skills do not enable her to enjoy right to work and other civil rights. Isra’a says: “ I am here today representing the Palestinian youth in Lebanon and have several experiences with youth and been involved in a youth organizations and projects that aims to advocate for our humanitarian and civil rights particularly our right to work rights we do not enjoy ”.

Isra’a is a social and political youth activist serving her community through voluntary work and campaigns aiming to empower youth and raise their voice and strengthen relationships between Ein El Hilweh camp and Lebanese neighborhoods.

Isra’a participation enriched discussions answering many questions raised by other Palestinian, African and European youth during this gathering and raising their awareness about suffering of Palestinian refugees in general and youth in particular in Lebanon and kinds of advocacy tools youth use in Lebanon to advocate for demands of reforms, social change and equal rights in line with the Universal Declaration of Human Rights .

Isra’a says: “this participation will increase my networking skills to strengthen our advocacy efforts for civil and humanitarian rights of Palestinian refugees in Lebanon and outside Lebanon. It also introduced me to active Palestinian organizations working in the field of advocacy for rights of Palestinian youth and know other youth who actively support Palestinian case in their community”.

Isra’a describes this gathering saying:“ It is an important action taken to attract the attention of African and European youth to the Palestinian case and to be placed within their political agenda”.

Isra’a expressed her thank to AAP“ I warmly express my thank to AAP for offering me this opportunity to participate in this gathering. I hope that AAP would continue in exerting advocacy efforts promoting the youth role in preserving Palestinian identity and networking with international supporters of Palestinian case in many world countries”.
