ActionAid Palestine to Continue Responding to the Needs of H2 to Combat COVID-19

A number of volunteers from  Sharek center/Hebron are preparing hygiene kits to be distributed on the needy families in H2 under AAP’s Preparedness and Response plan to COVID-19

Through its Child Sponsorship program, ActionAid Palestine (AAP) provided 91 needy Palestinian families living in the old city of Hebron(H2) with hygiene kits in partnership with Sharek center /Hebron.

This response targeted women from women groups established by AAP and a number of volunteers from AAP’s partner. Emergency response plan was designed and implemented in a way responding to the needs of targeted groups under the activities of Child Sponsorship programme. This response aimed to mitigate the impacts of pandemic affecting targeted families ,strengthen their resilience and protect them by taking preventive measures to contain the spread of pandemic under the current state of lockdown in Occupied Palestinian Territory(oPt) and  protection threats H2 suffers from caused by settlers’ violence and existence of military checkpoints.

AAP has implemented several emergency interventions since the outbreak of virus in oPt within its Preparedness and Response plan that is being implemented in West Bank and Gaza strip.

Through project of “Valiance “Basala”-Empowering women in H2” funded by Australian Government - Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade(DFAT), AAP ‘s response to COVID-19  focused on responding to the needs and interest of women in this area by conducting raising awareness workshops on psychological and social  issues through the use of  social media and other available technological means. AAP also supported Women’s income-generating projects to strengthen the economic resilience of their families.

AAP implements a number of programs through its engagement with communities and women and youth groups seeking to empower them and enhance their influential civil and political participation to understand their rights and undertake collective activism to address the protracted rights violations resulting from the prolonged occupation of Palestine. AAP works simultaneously to enhance their leadership capacity and knowledge to practice their citizenship in holding authorities and other duty bearers to account.
