ActionAid Palestine to Continue Supporting Health and Security Sectors in Hebron Governorate to Combat the SecondCOVID-19

West Bank-Hebron-ActionAid Palestine (AAP) continued responding to hygiene and preventive needs of health sector by providing medical staff of Dora government hospital with 35 personal protective equipment (PPE) and medical masks, hygiene material and sterilization pumps. Those materials and equipment will be used by nurses and doctors working in this hospital since it is the specialist hospital providing health care for patients with COVID-19 in Hebron governorate.

Delivering those equipment and materials took place in the presence of the country director of AAP, Ibrahim Ibraigth, and general director of Dora government hospital, Dr. Mohammad Al-Rabi and coordinator of Hebron emergency committee, Sheikh Hatem Al -Bakri  and representatives of the central emergency committee and Palestinian ministry of health . providing those materials and equipment aimed to combat the second wave of the spread pf pandemic since Occupied Palestinian Territory (oPt) has witnessed a significant surge in the number of cases according to the Palestinian ministry of health in West Bank and namely in Hebron Governorate

AAP also provided Hebron governorate with medical gloves and masks to enable the governorate to fulfill the needs of the members of security apparatus, sub-emergency committees and love checkpoints in Hebron governorate to support their role in enforcing the measures of safety and prevention. Those materials were delivered in the building of Hebron Governorate in the presence of Hebron Governor, Major-General, Jibreel Al-Bakri who praised the role of AAP in joining national efforts in combating corona pandemic.

 AAP also distributed hygiene and health parcels to seven infected families in  Al-Mi’asra village in the south of Hebron Governorate.

This intervention was implemented by members of youth groups of “Civil Peace” project funded Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) in cooperation with Hebron governorate and coordination with the central emergency committee and Palestinian ministry of health. This project aims to reinforce the role of young people, particularly, young women, in fostering civic peace and culture of tolerance and solidarity during this crisis. This intervention seeks to strengthen the preparedness and resilience of Dora hospital government facing COVID-19 and support and protect healthcare and security workers who work under difficult conditions and lack of medicine and medical equipment.

This response is one in a series of interventions AAP has implemented after the state of emergency had been declared in oPt in March. Those interventions in West Bank and Gaza focus on supporting Palestinian organizations and strengthening the resilience and food security of the infected families by the spread of virus and improving their capacity to take preventive measures for combating the pandemic. They also alleviate social and economic impacts caused the current state of emergency

The country director of AAP in oPt, Ibrahim Ibraigth said: “We have a common responsibility that should be shared by all sides to reach full recovery. The current crisis needs a continuous coordination with all community, governmental and international organizations to contain and combat the spread of the virus”.
