ActionAid Palestine a Multi-Channel Awareness Raising Campaign “Challenge to Support Women’s Rights during COVID-19

Hebron- West Bank- ActionAid Palestine (AAP) launched a multi-channel awareness raising campaign titled with “Challenge to Support Women’s Rights during COVID-19 Crisis”. This campaign is a part of the activities of the projects of “Social Innovation” and “Start your Business” implemented by AAP and funded by Italian Agency for Development Cooperation in partnership with local and Italian partners. Those projects aim to combat unemployment among youth, build their professional capacities needed for labor market and promote their economic resilience of their communities as marginalized communities in eight neighborhoods in governorates of Bethlehem and Hebron in the south of the West Bank. 

The campaign is focusing this year on working women in the informal sector whose rights are violated during COVID-19 crisis.  It is also highlighting the impact of the pandemic, lockdown, and economic stagnation on the surge of violence against women. The campaign includes a number of aired TV and radio episodes hosting a group of decision-makers and experts to increase awareness of audience in general and young women in particular about conditions of young women entrepreneurs during COVID-19, issues of unemployment among them, labor policies and rights of working women in the private sector to increase the legal awareness of youth. In addition, the tools and means that will help youth to overcome changes and impacts resulting from this crisis and condition of working women and consequences of working from home will be discussed. Inspiring and successful examples of women who faced challenges in the field of work and entrepreneurship will be presented to inspire other young women during this crisis. Educational brochures.

Background Information

ActionAid in Palestine (AAP) is a part of global federation working for social justice and gender equality and eradicate poverty in more than 45 countries around the world. AAP started its work in Palestine in 2007 to strengthen the resilience of Palestinian People as ActionAid believes that they should enjoy their rights to freedom, justice and self-determination. AAP implements a number of programs through its engagement with communities and women and youth groups seeking to empower them and enhance their influential civil and political participation to understand their rights and undertake collective activism to address the protracted rights violations resulting from the prolonged occupation of Palestine.
