ActionAid Palestine to Support Safety Measures in Schools of Hebron Governorate to Combat COVID-19

Hebron Governorate-West Bank-ActionAid Palestine (AAP) implemented an initiative supporting 68 schools in Hebron governorate in coordination with the emergency central committee and the Palestinian ministry of education. This intervention includes providing 24200 students with masks and providing schools with hygiene kits, sterilization pumps, thermometers, personal protective equipment (PPE). This intervention was conducted through AAP’s programs of “ Civil and Democratic Participation of Palestinian Youth” and “Child Sponsorship” on the occasion of beginning the new school year after six months of closing schools due to the spread of COVID-19.This intervention aims to enhance the capacity of marginalized schools to enforce safety measures to contain the spread of the virus. It is also a part of AAP’s strategy supporting the national and international efforts that are being exerted in Occupied Palestinian Territory in combating this pandemic.

The targeted schools in marginalized villages and areas and some of them are exposed to many education threats since they are surrounded by settlements, and Israeli military checkpoints which students have to go through to reach their schools.

The country director of ActionAid Palestine, Ibrahim Ibraigheth said: “It is important to concerted all efforts to help parents by providing their children with safety items protecting them from the virus and support the efforts of the Palestinian ministry of education that exerts to ensure the safe return of our students to their schools during the crisis of COVID-19”.
