ActionAid Palestine to Support Youth Initiatives in Cooperation with Palestinian Police to Combat COVID-19

Members of youth groups supported by ActionAid Palestine while they were implementing youth initiatives aiming to contain the spread of COVID-19 through cooperation with the Palestinian Police Hebron Governorate by distributing masks on citizens and school students  and provide the Red Palestinian Red Crescent Hospital based in Hebron  with hygiene and health kits, medical masks and gloves and PPE through “ Civil Peace project” funded by GIZ.

West Bank-Hebron -Through its project of “civil peace” funded by the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ), ActionAid Palestine (AAP) in cooperation with the Palestinian Police supported youth initiatives in governorates of Bethlehem and Hebron. Those initiatives aim to combat COVID-19. 

Young people in governorates of Bethlehem and Hebron implemented youth initiatives. Those initiatives include providing the Palestinian Red Crescent Hospital based in Hebron with hygiene items, sterilization pumps, personal protective equipment (PPE) ad medical masks and gloves. Youth cooperate with the Palestinian police to implement and lead a campaign aiming to raise awareness of citizens about safety procedures by distributing masks on citizens in the cities of Hebron and Dura and school students in the town of Beit Kahel. They also put up educational banners at the entrances of Hebron city calling for the importance of adhering to safety measures. In addition, workshop on combating violence against women and episode of television on mess of gun were organized in partnership with local partners. 

Members of youth groups participated in packing hygiene and health items and distributing them on the targeted groups. “Civil Peace” project aims to reinforce the role of young people, particularly, young women, in fostering civic peace and culture of tolerance and solidarity during this crisis. This intervention seeks to strengthen the preparedness and resilience of hospitals and protect healthcare and security workers who work under difficult conditions and lack of medicine and medical equipment. 

 This response is one in a series of interventions AAP has implemented after the state of emergency had been declared in oPt in March. Those interventions in West Bank and Gaza focus on supporting Palestinian organizations and strengthening the resilience and food security of the infected families by the spread of virus and improving their capacity to take preventive measures for combating the pandemic. They also alleviate social and economic impacts caused the current state of emergency.
