v44

Bethlehem-West Bank- ActionAid Palestine (AAP) organized a job fair -employment day in partnership with the Bethlehem Chamber of Commerce & Industry (BCCI) with the participation of more than 24 Palestinian companies and organizations working in different economic sectors. This Job Fair is part of INTERNISA Project- Developing the INTERNISA network of synergies to increase the number of digitally skilled women employed in the ENI CBC MED territories via matching demand and supply in the labour market.

The chairman of the (BCCI) Dr,Sameer Hazboun, opened the job fair in a speech welcoming all representatives of establishments, employers and participating institutions, pointing to the importance of facilitating and strengthening communication between the private sector and job seekers, which BCCI continually seeks to implement. He also expressed his thank to AAP for supporting this kind of activities due to their importance in creating job opportunities for young people, new graduates, job seeker and reducing high rates of unemployment.

Speaking on behalf of AAP, the head of Programs in AAP, Mr. Wisam Al-Shweiki welcomed the participants and representatives of companies and institutions participating in the job fair. He stressed in his speech the importance of this activity saying: “AAP prioritizes organizing such events because of their importance in creating job opportunities for young women and men, new graduates, and job seekers and in reducing the high unemployment rate. AAP works on strengthening the role of youth by empowering and training them, especially under the difficult conditions that our people pass through. It is important for employers to play a role and enhance communication between them and job seekers. We and businessmen and women hope to prepare programs that are compatible with their needs in the labor market, and we also hope that this day will be successful in reaching a greater number of job seekers”.

The job fair aims to introduce and allow new graduates and job seekers to interact and meet with participating companies and organizations. It will also give them access to a variety of services, including databases, human resource management counseling, details on training opportunities, and, most importantly, details on open positions. The job fair will enable a considerable amount of information interchange between potential employers and job seekers in a single location, which benefits both parties by drastically lowering the cost of both recruiting and job search.

Job Fair is part of the efforts that BCCI exerts to support youth employment in Bethlehem governorate which is one of the important issues it is currently facing. Job Fair included 24 corners for local companies and organizations that presented their training and recruitment policies for new graduates and job seekers. It also gave the participants an opportunity to receive professional counseling and guidance about improving their professional skills and potential and informing them about the needed majors for entering labour market.

AAP implements this project with support of ENI CBC Med Programme. The activities of this project focus on increasing the efficiency and relevance of education and professional training to the labor market by combining digital skills with professional development in 4 sectors including the agri-food, textile, tourism and financial sector. It is being implemented in Greece, Jordan, Spain, Tunisia, Lebanon, Palestine and Italy. Through this job fair, AAP seeks to promote direct communication between employers needing employees with young people seeking jobs especially young women with digital skills and those who need digital trainings. Hence, one of the expected outcomes of the job fair will be creating and finding job opportunities for participants and introducing them to INTERNISA network and recruitment policies of a number of organizations and companies working in Palestine.
