Ramallah, West Bank – The Global Platform Palestine of ActionAid in partnership with the Humanitarian Youth Group Palestine, organized a specialized training program titled "Youth Leadership in Emergencies." The training targeted 22 young men and women from various governorates of the West Bank.  The training was held in Ramallah for five days, including two days conducted virtually via the Zoom and three in-person days.

The training aimed to enhance participants' skills and knowledge in the field of humanitarian work, empowering them to take on leadership roles during emergencies. It adopted a participatory approach, enabling participants to engage through practical exercises, group work, discussions, artistic activities, and presentations.

The training focused on several key topics, including: the human rights-based approach, feminism and core humanitarian standards, ActionAid’s humanitarian signature, the history of humanitarian work, the humanitarian program cycle, power analysis, problem-solving, and essential humanitarian concepts.

Rand Sayej, one of the training coordinators and a member of the Humanitarian youth group Palestine, explained:

"The primary goal of the 'Youth Leadership in Emergencies' training is to enhance knowledge and empower youth in this field. This is because young people are often the first responders in many forms of humanitarian work. They are the first to act during crises. Therefore, it is essential that they possess the necessary knowledge and principles of humanitarian work due to immense energy and enthusiasm they have for humanitarian action.  This ensures that they will carry out their tasks correctly without exposing themselves or others to harm, whether indirectly or unintentionally due to a lack of experience."

Majdi Abu Qwaider is one of the participants, highlighted the significance of the training, saying:

"The 'Youth Leadership in Emergencies' training holds great importance in raising youth awareness and developing their leadership skills, not only in the field of voluntary   work. Through this training, I learned that young people are the true source of strength in society."

The training contributed to enhancing participants' awareness of their humanitarian roles and empowering them to effectively apply humanitarian principles in their communities. It also emphasized the crucial role of youth in crisis response, reflecting ActionAid's commitment to developing the next generation of leaders.
