ActionAid Palestine to Support Distributing Vegetables Baskets to Displaced Families in Gaza
Gaza Strip - ActionAid Palestine supported distributing vegetables baskets to displaced families in areas of Al- Mawasi Khan Younis and Deir Al-Balah in partnership with its partner Wefaq Society for Women and Child Care as part of its humanitarian response in middle and southern Gaza. This distribution aims to support affected families and improve their food security in the face of difficult circumstances caused by ongoing war.
Distributing food aids in Gaza is extremely impossible caused by severe restrictions imposed by the Israeli occupation authorities since early October on the entry of humanitarian aid and commercial goods through the Karam Abu Salem commercial crossing in south-eastern Gaza. Those restrictions have led to the depletion of all markets and high prices, caused by the "starvation" of the bodies of some 2 million Palestinians from the southern Gaza Strip.
The occupation's restrictions on the movement of humanitarian aid and commercial goods have forced many charitable community kitchens -tekias to close temporarily because of their inability to provide food preparation needs, especially as they become increasingly needed and have become the only haven for hungry people.
According to UNRWA, "delayed arrival of fuel and flour exacerbates the crisis, leaving countless people without access to bread". UNRWA states that without immediate intervention, the severe food shortage crisis is expected to worsen, putting the lives of more than 2 million Palestinians at risk as they rely on humanitarian assistance to survive.
According to the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), 80% of the sector's areas have become high-risk, forcing people to flee for the basics, especially since protection does not exist.
"Throughout Gaza, the delivery of little - permitted - assistance has become very complex, including because of unsafe roads," the office says.
