ActionAid Palestine to Support the Distribution of Food Parcels in Some Areas of the Old City in Hebron Governorate

Food parcel distribution

West Bank – Palestine: ActionAid Palestine (AAP)supported the distribution of food parcels to 100 families living in the areas of Tel Rmeida, Jabir neighborhood, and Al-Sahla in the H2 area of Hebron, in collaboration with the Humanitarian Youth Group– Palestine. This response is part of ActionAid’s efforts in its emergency humanitarian response in the occupied Palestinian territories, amid the deterioration of the economic and living conditions due to the ongoing war on Gaza since October 2023.

This response aims to alleviate the suffering of Palestinian citizens and enhance their resilience, especially given the difficult economic situation, the increasing number of unemployed individuals, and the rising unemployment rate due to the war. Approximately 150,000 Palestinians have lost their jobs in Israel, along with the daily closures and incursions.

The areas of Tel Rmeida, Jaber neighborhood, and Al-Sahla are located in the Old City of Hebron, which falls under Israeli-controlled territory known as the H2 area. Palestinian residents in this area face severe and unpredictable restrictions, which significantly impact all parts of their lives.

According to a report by Doctors Without Borders in 2024, the area known as H2 in Hebron (the Old City) has been one of the most heavily restricted areas in the West Bank. There are 21 Israeli military checkpoints controlling the movement of Palestinian citizens, posing significant barriers for healthcare workers attempting to access the area.

These areas in the city of Hebron are a stark example of the suffering of Palestinians, with 750 Palestinian families enduring extremely harsh and difficult living conditions due to the measures imposed by Israeli occupation forces, in addition to the settler attacks, which have significantly escalated since October 7, 2023.

These families suffer daily from movement restrictions, forced evictions, displacement, house demolitions, raids, arrests, interruptions to education, and the constant presence of the Israeli army and settlers in the area. The ability of the residents of these areas to access basic services, such as shops and healthcare, has been severely restricted. Since October 7, 2023, Israeli forces have tightened movement restrictions, opening checkpoints at specific times in the morning and afternoon on certain days of the week only. At times, Palestinians are not allowed to leave their homes for up to four consecutive days, not even to dispose of trash or open windows. Economically, these measures have led to the closure of many businesses under military orders, enforced curfews, and difficulty for business owners and citizens in accessing these services.

Women in these areas live their lives in daily tension due to facing attacks from settlers and Israeli occupation forces. Incidents of violence and restrictions imposed on Palestinians in the West Bank have escalated since October 7, 2023, as a result of settler violence and access restrictions in the West Bank.
