ActionAid Palestine to Support "Hakura Market" to Promote Women and Youth Entrepreneurial Products in Hebron

Hakura Market

Hebron, West Bank – ActionAid Palestine (AAP) inaugurated the activities of  Al "Hakura Market", in partnership and cooperation with Hebron Municipality, represented by Mayor Tayseer Abu Sneina, and the Hebron Chamber of Commerce and Industry. Al Hakura market was organized in Hebron’s Culture Street which will be a weekly community market offering sufficient space to display and promote women’s products, youth entrepreneurial goods, and small handmade crafts. The market is part of AAP ’s project “Valiance -Basala -Empowering women in old City of Hebron(H2)” funded by Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade.

Al Hakura Market, supported by AAP, aims to promote locally made products, particularly those made by women and youth, while supporting local handmade and artisanal crafts. It serves as a permanent marketing platform for youth and women entrepreneurs to reach new audiences and offers a safe space for women and girls. The market also plays a role in increasing women’s public participation, empowering them to engage economically, and enabling them to become productive and impactful members of their families and communities. A permanent market space is vital to empower productive families by providing them with a reliable platform to showcase their products, while also offering affordable goods to the community.

The market includes a variety of sections: traditional handicrafts, Palestinian embroidery, woodwork, fashion design, sewing, foods and culinary products, and cosmetics.

AAP’s country director, Jamil Sawalmah shared: “At ActionAid, we believe that economic empowerment of women paves the way for political and social empowerment, enhancing women’s participation in all areas of life. Supporting women economically and advocating for their economic and social rights as vital partners in development is key to achieving comprehensive and sustainable development.” Sawalma added that the organization is committed to building the skills of businesswomen through a range of technical, administrative, and financial training.

Participants expressed their enthusiasm for the market’s unique presentation, which helps them promote their products across Hebron. Al Hakura Market will be held every Saturday, from 10 am to 5pm.
