ActionAid Palestine to Organize Activities and Training for women and Children in Hebron

Hebron – Occupied Palestinian Territories (oPt) - As part of its ongoing efforts to empower women and enhance their rights, ActionAid Palestine (AAP) organized several training, awareness and medical sessions for women and children in the Old City of Hebron, in areas classified (H2).These training came within the activities of AAP ’s project “Valiance -Basala -Empowering women in old City of Hebron(H2)” funded by Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade.
This training and activities were carried out in cooperation with the Women's Centre for Legal Aid and Counseling, the Palestinian Family Protection and Organization Society, the Palestinian Medical Relief Society, the Friends of the Patient Association, Sharek Youth Forum, and Beitna Center.
These activities included trainings and awareness sessions on protection mechanisms for women, human rights, women’s rights, gender-based violence, and medical and recreational activities for women and children. There were health activities specifically for women, including free medical examinations and individual nutritional consultations in addition to a series of meditation sessions for women to provide a safe space for dialogue and group thinking, and to analyze the daily reality that women live in these areas.
These activities and trainings aim to raise women’s legal and social awareness of their rights guaranteed locally and internationally, and to deepen their understanding of the concept of gender-based violence, including its various forms and negative effects on women and society, in addition to providing participants with knowledge about the existing protection mechanisms including reporting channels and means of legal and social support. These activities seek to enhance their ability to defend themselves and demand their rights in various fields.
During these activities, women were provided with specialized counseling in social relationships and all forms of violence, in addition to providing health, social, legal and family counselling, including services directed to pregnant women. Children were targeted in these activities by implementing some health and medical activities aimed at educating children about some health matters, proper nutrition, and organizing healthy breakfast and recreational activities, which contributed to raising children’s health awareness in an interactive and fun environment.
These activities provided participating women with the opportunity to express their personal experiences and analyze their socio-economic situations, highlighting the challenges they face, such as gender-based discrimination and exclusion from resources and services. It also focused on enhancing collective awareness and solidarity among women, by searching for practical solutions that support positive change in their societies and enhance their leadership role and active participation in public life.
