Exchanging Knowledge for Building Solidarity Campaigns

Tanzania-Arusha -Yasser Adam( 34 years old) is a Sudanese youth social and political activist  and works as a national consultant for international organization in the field of protection from sexual abuse and violence in Darfur. Yasser is also a supportive to Palestinian people .He  joined Palestinian, European and African youth in the second international Youth Gathering (IYG) in solidarity with Palestine organized by ActionAid Palestine (AAP) in Tanzania.

Yasser is a social and political activist  advocating for the rights of oppressed people in Darfur. Yasser is interested in participating in this IYG  because he believes that: “ the Palestinian case is a case of global injustice and great  powers do not have  the right to offer the lands of one nation to other nations”. Yasser  also believes that this kind of international advocacy campaigns aims to influence the international political system and mechanisms of decision-making process regarding cases of the oppressed people”.

Yasser leads many community and national initiatives in Darfur aiming to end the oppression his community is exposed to and believes that the people of Palestine and Sundanese Darfur have the same suffering  caused by human rights violations,  land confiscation, properties’ destruction.

“ I feel that there is a common understanding for our suffering because our cases are just, and we are victims of global injustice. lack  of justice in Palestinian case will not only threaten the stability of Palestinians and Palestine but it will also threaten stability of the region and world”.

Deepening youth’ s understanding for regional and international issues is necessarily needed for building campaigns and solidarity with oppressed people. Yasser sends a message to African, Palestinian and European youth “ that each human being has some kind of suffering within his surrounding  context while that suffering should not prevent us from understanding the suffering of others so that a common goal could be set  and international solidarity could be built  between all the oppressed  and their supporters to expose the oppression the oppressed are exposed to. It is also important to know that the nature of that oppression Palestinian suffer from that is caused by international neglect and support of great powers to Israeli occupation”.

AAP brought youth from Palestine, Africa and Europe together to enhance their advocacy skills and knowledge about the Palestinian issue and build solidarity campaigns. Yasser says: “ solidarity between people  could be  built when we work as groups so that collective work can enable us to build collations and solidarity campaigns to support our just demands”.
