ActionAid Palestine to Respond to the Needs of Marginalized Families in the South of West Bank to Combat COVID-19
Strengthening their Resilience and Food Security
Hebron-West Bank -ActionAid Palestine (AAP)’s Child Sponsorship programme distributed food parcels and preventive hygiene kits to the neediest families in marginalized areas in the south of Hebron governorate namely in the villages of A’bdah and Imreish. This preventive and food response aims to protect those families and strengthen their resilience and their food security to counteract the impact of this virus. 90 poor families were identified, through participatory selection criteria; these families lost their livelihoods and have people with disabilities, and they are already headed by women.
On the short run, responding to the needs of those families will alleviate social and economic impacts caused by the full lockdown, and food insecurity. It will also contribute to the national efforts exerted in combating this pandemic in occupied Palestinian territory (oPt).
This intervention was implemented by AAP’s crisis unit, youth and women groups established by AAP and village councils of A’bdah and Imreish in coordination with emergency committee of Hebron Governorate. Complying with high standards of public safety and social distance, the process of packing of parcels and kits was directly carried out by the supplier under the supervision of AAP.
During the past weeks, ActionAid developed adaptive programme strategy for all Development and Humanitarian programs, so as to be relevant and consistent to the current state of emergency. Which will eventually contribute to promoting the role of women and young people in preparedness and response actions, through a multipronged approach, that invests in their technical expertise in the field of emergency response from one hand, whilst capitalizing on their leadership and influence through existing or new decision making space, which in turn have a greater positive impact on strengthening the resilience of Palestinian society at large.
AAP Country Director, Ibrahim Ibraigheth said: “We call to consolidate national efforts with efforts of political forces, civil society organizations and private sector to combat this pandemic”.
