INTERNISA Project in Palestine to Promote Digital skills for Female Employees in Tourism Sector during Post COVID-19

ActionAid Palestine (AAP) organized a special training in digitalizing tourism sector and introducing recent digital environments. This training which targeted 60 young women and graduates in tourism sector in the governorates of Ramallah, Bethlehem and Hebron aimed at enhancing their digital skills during and after COVID-19 crisis. It is also part of the activities of INTERNISA project which AAP has recently started implementing it. INTERNISA project is a network of Synergies to increase the number of digitally skilled women employed in the ENI CBC MED Territories via matching demand and supply in the Labor Market. INTERNISA project is funded by Cross Border Cooperation (CBC). 

This training has lasted for five days during which the female workers and graduates in tourism sector were introduced to the most important technological developments and required skills in labor market of tourism  during and after COVID-19 crisis. This training is essentially needed to empower young women to keep pace with the developments surrounding them and to better promote their ideas and enterprises regardless of their economic, health and social conditions. They will be empowered in the world of digital marketing, electronic commerce and digital entrepreneurship that we live through these days. This training will help targeted women to achieve sustainable incomes and create stable and comfortable living conditions.  

This training aimed at building the capacity of participants and improve their skills in using the most updated techniques in marketing specially in social media marketing g focusing on commercial brand, design and advertising. In addition, this training focused on the importance of utilizing technology in tackling issues of tourism and getting job opportunities in this sector. Trainees were introduced to the correct means for branding and using the updated techniques in looking for work, identifying and branding their tourist products. 

The training offered the trainees the opportunity to improve their skills in the field of creating marketing content in different fields of digital marketing, using websites and social media. Trainees were trained on means of searching for platforms that could enhance their skills and translate their ideas into projects. They were also trained on the best means for marketing their products, basics of design, phone marketing and smart boards. The training promoted the life skills of trainees as skills of communication, team spirit, listening and professionalism and other life skills. These skills are essentially needed to encourage young women for innovation which increasingly ensure their empowerment and prepare them for labor market. 

Lina Al-Hamouri is one of the young women who received this training. Lina used to work as a tourist guide in the governorate of Hebron before COVID-19. Lina has negatively been impacted by COVID-19 and she has lost her work due to lockdown. Lina stressed the importance of this training saying: “this training is important for young women and graduates as it is needed for updating and building our digital skills needed for labor market, remote working, digital marketing to keep up with developments and changes created by COVID-19. 

INTERNISA project seeks to bridge the gender digital gap and provide women with marketable digital skills and qualify skilled labors according to the needs of labor market. The project will increase the efficiency and relevance of education and professional training to the labor market by combining digital skills in the digital sector with professional development in the agri-food, textile, tourism, and financial sectors.
