ActionAid Palestine to Organize Workshop “Recommendation for Decision Makers to Enhancing Integration of outcomes of INTERNISA project and Basic Needs of TVET in Palestine
Ramallah-ActionAid Palestine (AAP) organized a workshop for making recommendations for decisionmakers to enhance integration of the outcomes of INTERNISA and basic needs of the Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET) in Palestine. This workshop is a part of the INTERNISA project- network for cross-borders cooperation in the field of digital technology. INTERNISA is a project AAP implements to increase the number of digitally skilled women and it is funded by the ENI Cross-Border Cooperation (CBC) Program in MED territories specially in Greece, Jordan, Lebanon, Tunisia, Palestine, Spain and Italy.
More than 21 participants participated in this workshop representing ministries of agriculture, education ,higher education and scientific research, ministry of women affairs, labour, Palestinian Federation of Industries, Palestinian Food Industries , chamber of commerce in governorates of Bethlehem and Hebron, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization(UNESCO), Business Women Forum Palestine, General Union of Palestinian Workers, Teacher Creativity Center ,Palestinian Education Coalition, Young Men's Christian Association(YMCA), German Agency for International Cooperation(GIZ) and Palestine Polytechnic University.
The Workshop included presenting the outcomes of INTERNISA project and discussing the reasons for gender digital gap between supply and demand in the field of vocational professions in the Palestinian labour market.
The workshop raised many recommendations and the most prominent of which is starting the process of awareness and counseling about vocational training from the elementary grades, including enhancing positive representation of vocational professions in the school curricula and the need to conduct an evaluation of the curricula in terms of addressing TVET. The importance of involving trade unions, relevant stakeholders and the media in raising awareness of the family and society about the importance of vocational education and combating negative perceptions of vocational professions was also emphasized.
The workshop also called for increasing the number of programs that contain dual studies that combine theoretical study with practical application in higher education organizations. The workshop pointed to the importance of applying fand disseminating vocational apprenticeship program in schools.
During the workshop, it was stressed to enhance integration and networking between partners and actors in the field of TVET. It was also heighted the importance of designing vocational programs for female graduates of higher education and to be provided with necessary professional guidance. Recommendations also focused on promoting self-employment and cooperatives as means for combating poverty and unemployment. It was also recommended to establish evaluation programs for employers and involving the private sector in designing TVET curricula. Participants stressed the need to increase the share of practical activities in the vocational education and training process. They also pointed out the necessity of unifying the efforts of supporters and donors and developing laws and policies considering the needs and reality of TVET. The workshop also tackled the issue of building and developing the capacities of TVET specialists so that the developed curricula could be presented with high quality to students taking into consideration modernity and innovation so that it could respond to the required skills and competencies required in the labor market. The workshop recommended the necessity of having a unified database under the umbrella of the National Commission for TVET and adopting the standard occupational classification. The workshop also highlighted the importance of legislating laws that could be reflected with implementation mechanisms in the national strategy 2024-2029.
INTERNISA project seeks to increase the relevancy of TVET with the needs of Labour market by gaining the digital skills that could be utilized in four sectors including, agri-food, textile, tourism and financial sectors.
