Hebron -West Bank-ActionAid Palestine(AAP) launched a multi-channel awareness raising campaign titled with “Challenge Discriminatory Attitudes and Practices relating to Young Women’s Economic Empowerment” through a number of media and community activities. This campaign is a part of “Social Innovation” project implemented by AAP and funded by Italian Agency for Development Cooperation in partnership with local and Italian partners. It aims to combat unemployment among youth, build their professional capacities needed for labor market and promote their economic resilience of their communities as marginalized communities in eight neighborhoods in governorates of Bethlehem and Hebron in the south of the West Bank.
The activities of the campaign include a number of aired TV and radio episodes hosting a group of decision-makers and experts to increase awareness of audience in general and young women in particular about forms of discrimination against them in labor market. It will also introduce them to the most important valid labor laws and discuss difficult and unsuitable work conditions they pass through including low salaries and kind of job opportunities available for women. Furthermore, the cultural and social factors impeding women’s participation in labor market will be addressed. Inspiring and successful examples of women who faced challenges in the field of work and entrepreneurship will be presented to inspire other young women to initiate their start-ups. Educational brochures will be distributed and community meetings will be conducted with targeted communities and private sector in the project to brief them about the campaign and its importance and outcomes.
